Captivating Croatia!

We flew from Athens to Dubrovnik on June 19th.  The scene at the Athens airport for our flight on Volotea airlines was unbelievable. We waited in line for over 2.5 hours to check in and just barely made the flight as they delayed the plane for all of us.   We were very happy to arrive in Dubrovnik and settle into our little place in Lapad.  It’s a lovely area not far from the Old City and has a promenade with many restaurants and shops that lead to a pebble beach.

Looking toward Old Town from Lokrum Island.
A young peacock was interested in Ken!
Many rocky beaches in this area.
This male did a nice display for us and made lots of loud squawking.
There were always stairs to climb up and down in Lapad area and of course in the Old City in Dubrovnik.
More stairs leading to our house in Lapad.
And of course there are cats everywhere.
Gorgeous large trees with profuse blossoms.
Beautiful night sky in Lapad.
We rented a car in Dubrovnik and drove up the coast to Drevnk where we caught a ferry to Hvar Island. Fertile valley with lots of orchards.
Breathtaking scenery along the drive after the Bosnia Herzegovina border.
The little ferry that took us on the 35 minute crossing. We had to wait for the next sailing as there were big lineups.
After navigating some winding, narrow roads, we arrived in Stari Grad. We loved staying there.
Scenes along the promenade in Stari Grad.
Our favourite restaurant in Stari Grad. Almost all dining is outdoor seating. Children run and play in the streets every night after sunset as the parents visit.
Dining in Jelsa – a neighbouring town.
Lots of old buildings and marinas in all these little towns.
Gorgeous churches in the town squares.
Promenade in Hvar City. It’s pedestrian only (like many) in the walled city.
We took a larger ferry (2 hour ride) from Stari Grad on Hvar island to Split.
Gorgeous little park in town centre near where we were staying.
We went to Trogir often to shop and eat.
Beautiful clear water and lots of people swimming in the ocean every day all along the coast. It was between 35 and 38 degrees most days.
Farewell Croatia – we will be back!

We are now in Rome and preparing to sail on a cruise ship tomorrow for 9 days.   It is very hot here in Rome as well so we have been enjoying the pool and spa at our hotel.  More updates to come!
