Aruba – Caribbean paradise!

Aruba is the second leg on our retirement journey.  Travel during Covid times is not easy but we are making the best of it.

There was a very tight timeline for our Covid testing, results and then the ensuing 22 hours of travel from Puerto Vallarta to Aruba.  We had our PCR tests on January 15 and were very relieved to both receive negative results that day.  We had changed our flights from returning to Canada and going to Aruba via Toronto after Westjet cancelled our Puerto Vallarta to Toronto portion and directed the flight through Calgary.

We boarded our plane from Puerto Vallarta to Los Angeles the evening of January 16 and arrived on time.  But typical of LAX, there was some congestion at the international arrivals area and when we got there the bridge was broke which resulted in us sitting on the ground in LA before being able to deplane for almost 2 hours.  This caused us to miss our next flight from LA to Miami.  Add in a friendly US customs agent who wanted to hear Ken’s navy stories and it really put us behind in trying to find another  option.

Thankfully American Airlines were able to put us on a flight from LA to Dallas with another connection on to Miami.  And then on a later flight to Aruba.  Which meant we would still arrive within the 2 day window for our PCR tests to be valid for entry to Aruba.

Our travel buddies John and Jan managed to get on delayed flights and left on one of the few flights out of Toronto and arrived in Aruba just before us.

Our villa was occupied because of the previous tenant waiting for Covid test results so we spent the first night in another spot.  But we finally got settled in on day 2 and have really enjoyed this spacious villa.

Ken’s phone died after a few days here so we had to rent a car and make arrangements to get a new phone for him.  We have it all sorted out now and can post more regularly.  We are loving the water here!
