Vision of the Seas – Europe windup

We boarded Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas on July 28th for our last European sailing on this trip.  It was a 9 day trip to ports in France, Italy and back to Spain.  This time we experienced a much bigger crowd on the ship and lots of children.  Also many Spanish speaking guests.  It’s a beautiful older ship with many lovely lounges and great music.

Vision of the Seas at anchor in Portofino, Italy.
Beautiful Centrum area of the ship with viewing from 8 decks to centre entertainment area.

Our first port was VilleFranche which is bordered by Nice and Monaco.  We sailed into Nice and then drove to the Principality of Monaco.

Driving through Nice to Monaco.
The Royal Palace in Monaco.
Princess Grace is still revered and much loved. There were lovely parks in her honour.
Beautiful harbour in Monaco. It costs as much as a boat to anchor here.
The start of the Grand Prix race is right at the mouth of the harbour. Most Monaco residents leave the area during Grand Prix.
The entrance to Monte Carlo. It’s grand elegance and quiet, luxurious interior is not seen in other casinos.
Ceiling inside the entrance to Monte Carlo.  We were not allowed to take photos inside the casino.
Unbelievable display of expensive vehicles outside the Casino. Rolls Royces, Lamborghinis and many other very expensive cars on display.
Heavy French naval warship presence at the harbour in Toulon, France.  These 4 are decommissioned.
Arriving at Toulon via transfer boat.
Lovely waterfront boardwalk in Toulon with wonderful restaurants.
The garlic and olive vendor at the market in Toulon.
Views in Portofino during our hike.  It was a very hot day to hike these altitudes – over 37 degrees.
Lovely coastline views.
We ate some gelato to celebrate the hike down from the mountain – great views.
We took a train tour in Ajaccio Corsica to experience the coastline.
Olive vendor at local market.
Beautiful cheeses and meats were also sold.
Beach scenes from train. We both loved Corsica and plan to come back to explore the island in depth in the future.
Relaxing on the ship. I am still recovering from my chest infection.
Virgin ship in harbour at Palermo Italy.
Beautiful old theatre in a piazza in town centre.
Horses and carriages were kept in the shade for the most part. It was 37 degrees that day in Palermo.
Grand theatre and opera house – we could not take in a performance but it would have been amazing.
Lovely architecture everywhere in Palermo.
Ships passing by in the sunset.

We are now in Barcelona and are flying back to Canada tomorrow!  We will be visiting family in the Maritimes and then the Prairies and returning to BC near the end of August.

We have another extensive trip coming up to Hawaiian Islands, South Pacific Islands, New Zealand, Australia, Bali, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia.  We will be adding our new schedule shortly and sharing about these upcoming adventures on this blog site.

Thanks for sharing the adventure with us!
