Australia Adventures

Iconic Sydney skyline at night.

We arrived in Sydney the first time on October 22 and then again on November 3 and loved exploring this beautiful city.  From Sydney we embarked on a 11 night exploration of Queensland and several cities along the Great Barrier Reef.

After a few days at sea and seeing a remote outpost in the far North banks of the Great Barrier Reef, we arrived in Port Douglas.

Onboard a river cruise near Port Douglas with friends we met from the UK.
Extensive mangroves with salt water crocodiles and mud crabs.
Majestic Poincianas lined the streets.
At anchor in the Great Barrier Reef. We used tender boats to get to Cairns.
We enjoyed walking along the Esplanade and the large public pool alongside the ocean.

We enjoyed fresh seafood along the ocean and it was decided we would need to come back to enjoy Cairns and other Queensland cities more extensively on a future trip.

Captivating Airlie Beach.
Gorgeous sand beach but no swimming. There were extensive warnings about Stingers (jellyfish) and first aid kits to treat stings. All locals used the oceanfront pool instead.
Leaving our tender area close to Airlie Beach.
Enjoying silent disco onboard the ship.
Beautiful moonlit night during our cruise to Brisbane.
Enjoying downtown Brisbane.
Our favourite was visiting the Lone Pine Koala bear Sanctuary.
The kangaroos were like lazy dogs – well fed and content.
The Eclipse back alongside in Sydney harbour.
We had some heartfelt farewells to all the staff on Celebrity Eclipse who took such exceptional care of us during our 54 days onboard.
Incredible huge trees along Sydney harbour in the botanical gardens.
Aboriginal performers at Sydney harbour.
The Jacarandas were blooming everywhere with their gorgeous purple flowers.
We loved the vibe at Bondi beach. We stayed there for a week and enjoyed great cliffside walks, restaurants and relaxed attitude.
Shoppers at the Metro grocery store in our building leave their dogs in the ‘paws refresh’ zone while they shop.
Incredible limestone deposits along the cliffside walkway.
Limestone hung over parts of the walkway.
Beautiful Bondi Beach.
Enjoying a day trip from Bondi Beach to Sydney.

We had planned to go to the wine region in Southern Australia – Adelaide and area – but there were severe floods in the area.  We have decided that there is far too much to explore in Australia and we need to dedicate another trip to this wonderful continent.

We are currently in Fiji – enjoying our second week here – and heading to Bali next for a month.  Thank you for your interest in our travels.  We look forward to updating you in our next post.

Oh, Robbie and Ken…what wonderful adventures for you. When Randy and I were in Australia we visited many of the places you enjoyed. I remember some of the beaches in Northern Australia where you mentioned you couldn’t go in the water because of the jelly fish. Safe travels and don’t stop posting…enjoying every post and picture ♥️
