Incredible Singapore!

Super tree tops at night.

We had good support from Jetstar Asia out of Bali to Singapore on January 1st.  Ken was in a wheelchair and they helped us arrange a wheelchair on arrival.  The fellow who met us with the wheelchair must have weighed all of 100 lbs but he was friendly and took care of guiding us through the airport to the luggage and then taxis.

Beautiful displays using flowers, fish, light and water are found throughout Singapore airport.
View from our hotel room in Singapore.

The Paradox hotel was absolutely fabulous to us in arranging a wheelchair for Ken right away and helping me with the luggage.  Ken used the wheelchair for the entire stay in Singapore and we were grateful for the hotel’s support.

Walkway along the river by our hotel.

I would take Ken out in the wheelchair for walks along the river to get him out of the room.

Enjoying some fresh air along the riverside.
Heart of locks along the river walkway.
River tour boats went through this area. But unfortunately Ken was not able to step onto the boat for us to experience this tour.

Singapore is a republic, island state and city all in one.  It is a major financial hub and is beautifully modern and westernized.  Three quarters of the inhabitants have Chinese background but there are also large numbers of people from Malaysia and India.  This cultural mix with the different religions of Christianity (mainly Chinese) and Islam (Malays and some Indians) and Hindu (Indian) also makes for an ethnic super feast in the food offerings you can find in Singapore.  We were grateful to just be  able to brush our teeth using tap water again.

Chinese New Year displays were everywhere. This one was in our hotel.

I often walked over to the shopping area in Chinatown to visit shopping malls for pharmacy items for Ken.  These indoor areas were amazing with floors and floors of shops and food stands.

Big display with horoscopes for each animal year. I was born in the year of the rat.
Year of the rabbit displays along the parkway.

We were on an executive floor that included breakfasts and happy hours in the late afternoon with incredible buffets.  This was very handy for me to be able to wheel Ken down the hallways and prepare the food plates for him.  We often sat by the windows with incredible views.

During the first days we arranged a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor to come in to see Ken and give a treatment.  It was during this treatment that it was concluded that his foot pain was a result of another gout attack brought on by the ankle twist in Bali.  Following this we bought alternative medicines to help ease his pain and swelling.  I finally booked him in to see another doctor in the mall beside us who prescribed medications that finally starting bringing down the swelling.

Marina Bay Sands Hotel which was featured in the movie Crazy Rich Asians.

I arranged a trip in late afternoon/evening to Gardens by the Bay.  It had lovely walkways and exhibits that were wheelchair friendly.

Beautiful displays of flowers, trees and sculptures. This was a South African exhibit.
The air in the Flower dome was exotic with all the blooming flowers.
Year of the rabbit was everywhere in the displays.
Ken managed to stand to pose with the bull sculpture.
Large animal art made from wood pieces on many of the trees.
This display was over 30 feet tall!
Enjoying the beautiful displays.
Incredible displays inside Cloud Forest dome.
Moon rising as super trees light up.
Floating baby sculpture at Gardens by the Bay. It weighs 7 tons.
Being amongst the super trees at night was an magical feeling we will never forget.

We are currently in Penang, Malaysia and will share experiences about our time in Kuala Lumpur in our next blog!

What a beautiful place to explore and to see them celebrating the Chinese New Year. Loved the amazing super trees and the floating baby. Hope Ken’s foot has healed.

Beautiful place and another experience though not as great it sounds. So glad you found lots of kindness and help for Ken’s poor injury and gout. Hope you are both healthy and enjoying now ❤️😍
