6 weeks in Puerto Vallarta – before South America

We left Kelowna on October 24 to find the warmth of Mexico before we started our sailing trip to South America.  We stayed at the Grand Venetian again.  We love the area with shopping close by and our favourite walking trail along the river in our neighbourhood.

Scenes along our walking trail. We walked along this for an hour most days.
A boy with his dogs waiting at the spay and neuter clinic along the walkway.
These turtles hung around the same area of the river every day as people passing by would feed them.
Our view from our condo balcony.
We were there for a very important holiday in Mexico called Dia de Los Muertos.

During Dia de los Muertos (which can last 3 days or more) families celebrate the spirits of those who have passed away.  October 31 is not Halloween there but some of the traditions from Canada and US are seeping in.  We did see a few children with costumes trick or treating.

October 31 is the day they honour the souls of children who have passed.  On November 1st they remember the spirits of adults.  On November 2 it is believed that the spirits who have returned to visit will depart.

There are public alters to honour those who have passed.

Some of the incredible works of art on display during this holiday.
One of the highlights of our visit was seeing friends Vince and Lisa and catching up. Here we are dining at La Huerta near the river.
The largest Catrina in the world graced the Malecon during much of our time there. It was an impressive sight.
Other impressive Malecon artwork.
We watched people parasailing every day from the beach by our place.
Ken loved these beautiful horses that were on the beach most days.
A day trip to Bucerias to enjoy the beautiful beach there and shopping and lunch.
Tequila pharmacy to cure all your ailments.
Cute little children in the streets with their mothers.
An array of interesting shops on the side streets of Bucerias.
Sculpture along the Bucerias waterfront.
Enjoying a social afternoon with Cinthia, Josh and Rafael – the property management team.

We also had wonderful visits with dear friend Penny from California who was down for a week at her place in Mexico.  We enjoyed dinner out at Trio restaurant and dinner as well with Penny and friend Michael from Guadalajara at Bravo.

Getting into the Christmas spirit in our condo lobby.
A little sweetie enjoying the live saxophone playing in our resort restaurant.
Christmas decor at La Isla mall next to our place.
Turtles sunning themselves at La Isla mall.
We were treated to beautiful sunsets almost every night.
Feeling relaxed and content after a day in the sun.
We look forward to more of these scenes when we come back to Puerto Vallarta in the spring.

We are now preparing to board the Celebrity Eclipse to sail to South America.  We look forward to updating you about our adventures in the coming weeks.
